* Today we had our IS module (Chinese Culture) on Chinese Calligraphy and Tea appreciation!
I am so excited for it! I have always taken interest in Chinese Calligraphy but I never had the chance to! Unfortunately my secondary school does not have a Chinese Calligraphy CCA or activity thus I never had a chance to try it. But wait no further! I finally have the opportunity to try it! I can also learn more about tea appreciation and the ways to serve or brew the tea in the correct way!
We are grouped into a pair and I had Jodie as my partner!
Some pictures of the lecture on calligraphy and our materials!
The tip of the calligraphy brush must be sharp! So as to ensure the precision of each and every stroke that we draw.
Our calligraphy expert then showed us a live demo on the different strokes and how you should hold your brush properly!
The two "福" that our calligraphy teacher showed used 2 two different methods to write it! The first method is to write it stroke by stroke in a systematical way whereas the second picture is written in just 1 long stroke! I just can't help but me awed but how beautiful and elegant his characters looked! As the saying always go: Practice makes Perfect! The teacher told us that he took a lot of years to master his calligraphy skills and we should not be sad or depressed if we can't get our stroke right in the first try! I guess I must be one of the depressed students because my calligraphy looks terrible!
Just look at it! So ugly! HAHA! I also discover a very embarrassing thing that I did on my calligraphy paper! Guess what? After taking this picture, I realise I have written my chinese name wrongly!! Oh my god! I am a disgrace to my parents! HOW CAN I WRITE MY NAME WRONGLY?! There I am smiling with my wrongly written piece of failed attempt of calligraphy.. That aside, as I am bad in calligraphy writing for chinese characters, I decided to try doing calligraphy in Japanese! The few characters on the top left hand corner of the paper are Japanese characters! It seems much nicer then my chinese characters (or should I say... my wrongly written name). That aside, chinese calligraphy requires much precision and concentration in just writing a single chinese character. This is because if you don't focus when writing a character, you might accidentally get a few stroke wrong and that minor mistake will turn your piece into trash! I mean.. Who would want to see their calligraphy having some minor fault on their paper?
This segment taught me to concentrate and do things with precision, concentration and patience! These three values will definitely aid me in the long run.
After our calligraphy segment, we swapped with the other group and went ahead to our next segment, Tea Appreciation!
Tea appreciate involves the serving of Tea elegantly, the ways to brew a pot of tea and how to appreciate and taste the tea!
Some examples of Tea Appreciation!
Our instructor does the brewing and handling of tea elegantly and flawlessly! She look so graceful when she was doing it!
Below are some pictures of the instrument used for tea brewing and the various types of tea!
Some of our OIP group mates also tried to brew the tea! Both Hui Ting and Joel did a good job in brewing them! The tea that they brew taste good as well! I wanted to try brewing it but I was too scared to try! HAHA!
I definitely will try to brew tea using the methods I have learnt today! My dad is a big fan of tea and I hope he will learn what I have learnt today as well!
The final product of the tea!
This two IS module lessons are the two which I enjoyed the most! I enjoyed hands on experiences very well and I learn more about them when I try to understand how they work and also to work the by myself!
