Day 21; 24032013, Sunday.

* Today we are going to the strawberry farm to pick strawberries! Yippee! This is definitely a great way to start the day! All of us took a 1 hour bus ride to the strawberry farm! I have never visited a strawberry farm in my entire life! It is kind of weird though; going for a strawberry picking trip during OIP. I really don't see the link between this two but nevertheless, it is going to be a great experience for me!
Upon arrival, all of us are greeted by the pretty sight of the blooming flowers and crops as well as the horrifying stench of animal fecal matters..

All of us had a hard time on the way to the strawberry farm as the pathway was super muddy, slippery, narrow and foul smelling! If you happen to slip and fall off the pathway, you will probably be covered in mud and dirty water! After much struggles and complains, we finally saw the strawberry growing areas! Look at the white tent along the sides of the pathway.

We immediately headed into the tents to pluck the long awaited strawberries!
Ah. That sense of euphoria when I plucked my first strawberry!

This is my very first experience plucking fruits or vegetables from the farm itself! It enables me toounderstand and feel how a farmer's daily life is like. It was definitely a fresh experience as you can hardly get any chances like this back in Singapore!

The bag of strawberries I have just plucked!

I was having difficulty choosing the various strawberries to pluck because I have no experience in choosing them. The farmers there also did not specify which kind of strawberries are we suppose to pluck. The strawberries at the farm comes in various different sizes! After struggling and randomly plucking strawberries, one of the OIP mates told us to choose strawberries that are bright red and small. This is due to the fact that smaller and bright red strawberries are usually sweeter then the others! Guess I just learn how to choose my strawberries in the near future!

After plucking our strawberries, we bid farewell and headed back to the coach to take a ride back to our hostel.

After this tiring strawberries plucking experience, I have learn that things does not really come easily. All these strawberries need to be cared and it also takes time to harvest them when they are ripe.
We must never take things for granted because back in Singapore whenever we purchase strawberries, we never thought of the tiring process that the farmers take to harvest all these strawberries for us!  They have to bend down and pick the strawberries and that action alone will cause your back to ache and hurt!

Though the process of strawberry picking was long and tiring, we get to enjoy our harvested strawberries nevertheless!

Some of the photo when we are plucking our strawberries.

After our trip to the strawberry farm, we get to enjoy the various performance put up by the students of Wuchang University of Technology!

The performance was enjoyable and I really appreciate all the students effort as they put all of these wonderful segments together! I really enjoyed them a lot. Especially the part where the students made some of our OIP mates to sing! The way the student forces our OIP mates to sing was amusing! Never had I enjoyed performances like this!
Today is also the day where Miss Mikia will leave us and thus we took a group photo with her as memory! Hope to see her again in Ngee Ann!

End!

  1. The strawberry picking really gave us all an insight to what goes on behind the scenes. Like those others engaged in agriculture, they often toil hard everyday to earn their living. Not to mention that most of them are old uncles and aunties and sometimes young children of less than four years old.
